#Krishi Vigyan Kendra, for the Kamrup district of Assam was sanctioned in the year 2001 as a re-mandated KVK under Innovations in Technology Dissemination (ITD) component of NATP. A plot of 10 ha of land within the existing Horticultural Research Station (HRS) of Assam Agricultural University was given for the purpose of establishing the KVK in the year 2004. However, the actual work started from the year 2005 with facilities shared by HRS in terms of office space, hostel, etc. Initially, there were only 3 staff and the remaining staffs excepting one (Fishery SMS) were recruited from the year 2008. The new office building of the KVK was inaugurated on 5th March 2014 by Sri Nilamoni Sen Deka, Hon'ble Agricultural Minister, Govt of Assam in the presence of Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, AAU and other dignitaries. The KVK continues to work in close collaboration with the HRS specially in terms of horticultural technologies and is adequately backed by the university with seeds of released varieties and packages. It also has its demonstration and experimental farms. Over the last few years, this KVK has developed close linkage with the state departments and farming community and could bring in the desired visibility as one stop technology and information accesses. It is located on national highway no. 37 at a distance of about 18 kms from Guwahati city and 3 kms fron LGB International Airport. The present administrative building of KVK, Kamrup is equipped with a full-fledged soil testing laboratory in addition to a training hall, exhibition hall and a storage go-down. There is a farmers' hostel of KVK, Kamrup where 40 farmers can be accommodated at a time. The main objective of KVK, Kamrup is for testing and transfer of agricultural technologies to bridge the gap between production and productivity and is to increase self employment opportunities among the farming community. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kamrup is trying its best to bridge the gap between production and productivity and also to create self-employment opportunities amongst unemployed educated rural youths in the field of Agriculture and allied sectors in addition to performing other regular activities.
